THE GARCIA SCHOLARSHIP

The Garcia Scholarship is named after Dr. Sylvia Garcia and the late Dr. Daniel Garcia — a couple that was pivotal in making NHI at Tip of Texas the region that it is today. Along with her husband, Dr. Sylvia Garcia was the first Project Administrator of NHI at Tip of Texas, and served in that role until 1998. In that time, the Garcias created the institutional, pedagogical, and cultural foundations upon which the next three decades would proudly stand. Although the couple was officially involved for about six years, they created a legacy that lives on to this day.

The Garcia Scholarship awards up to three freshmen students from the city of Brownsville full-tuition scholarships to participate in the Great Debate Program with NHI at Tip of Texas. It also waives the local fee ($695 USD tuition + $200 USD local fee = $895 USD value). Recipients' tuition, transportation to the tournament, housing and meals while at the tournament, and training materials are covered in their entirety. Recipients are only responsible for paying NHI's $25 USD application fee and $150 USD deposit.

To be considered, applicants must submit an application by December 15, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
